How Long Will The Treatment Take?

Are you thinking to get a replacement of your lost tooth? If yes, dental implants are the best option. However, before going for the same, it makes a lot of sense to get familiar with the treatment period. After all, longer the treatment period, more will be the frequency of your visits to the dentist, and you will have to wait longer to get your smile back. So, let us have a glimpse at the time taken for a fixed teeth treatment.

Duration of one-two hours
Same-day implants are now popular because of the convenience of getting back your confidence and tooth or teeth in the fastest possible procedure. Normally, a skilled dentist takes only one hour to complete a successful dental implant, but sometimes the treatment duration may extend to two hours. If there is poor bone density surrounding the implant area, it is strongly recommended to opt for a longer treatment to ensure its success.

Usually, it takes more time when the implant is in the upper jaw and lesser time in the lower jaw bone. The lower jaw bone has relatively a higher bone density that accelerates the healing process. A dentist sometimes uses a single piece consisting of both the abutment and the crown.

Duration of 3-6 months
The traditional approach of a two-stage dental implant procedure takes a longer duration. A dentist places an implant in the gum and leaves it to heal for 3-6 months. A surgical procedure is then followed to open up the gum (mucosa) for attaching the abutment and the crown. Sometimes, a dentist also does bone grafting when he finds low density of bone after examination.

Even in a single-stage dental implant, a dentist places a permanent crown after a period of 3-6 months, but there is always a temporary crown to restore the smile.

Hence, it becomes quite clear that under any circumstances, it is not possible that your treatment will go beyond a period of six months.
